There are 7.2 million Americans with mental retardation and related developmental disorders.

There are over 80,000 Mississippians with mental retardation and related developmental disorders.

SON Valley will be unique in Mississippi.

  • It will be a Christian community for adults with mental retardation.
  • It will be open to all races and creeds, but will maintain the Christian atmosphere.
  • It will serve the spectrum of mental retardation, from the high functioning to the profoundly retarded.
  • It will take an adult and care for him/her for the rest of his/her life.
  • It will have a nursing home for the natural progression of life.
  • It will be a safe and secure community, not an institution.
  • It will have room for parents to live in the community if they so desire.
  • It will be built on 80 acres of donated land in Madison County, just outside Canton.
  • It will contain group homes, independent living facilities, recreational areas (soccer and baseball fields, horses, a lake, walking trails, etc.), workshop areas, a residential area for parents, facilities for respite care and a commercial area for "downtown".
  • Phase 1 will consist of two homes (housing 8-10 adults each) and a multi-purpose building.
