Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Who is Baptist Homes, Inc. and what is the relationship to SON Valley?
A.Baptist Homes, Inc. is the parent entity which is developing SON Valley. (See History) We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, incorporated in the State of Mississippi.

Q.Does that mean that Son Valley will be for Baptist residents only?
A.No indeed. We will gladly welcome all races and creeds into SON Valley. The Board of Directors is comprised of Baptists per the By-laws. The main thing to know is that SON Valley will always be a CHRISTIAN community. It was named for the Son, Jesus, and will always remain faithful to that commitment. The staff will be Christian and all the families of residents will be aware of that fact prior to joining SON Valley.

Q.How will SON Valley be different from other facilities for the mentally retarded?
A.We will be different in several areas:
  1. It will be a CHRISTIAN environment. The staff will be Christian and the atmosphere will be Christian. We will accept residents of other faiths, but they will understand on the front end that SON Valley is Christian.
  2. SON Valley will accept all levels of mental retardation, not just mild.
  3. SON Valley will be a real community, providing for the needs of its residents. It will not be an institutional setting, but will be "home" for the residents.
  4. The ultimate goal of SON Valley is to take care of our residents for the rest of their lives. That is a huge vision, but it is what is neededÑboth by the individual and by the family.

Q.When will Phase 1 be built?
A.The Board of Directors of Baptist Homes, Inc. has scheduled construction for the Summer of 2007. Phase 1 should be open for business by the Summer.

Q.What will be in Phase 1?
A.Two homes (housing 10 residents in each) and one other building.

Q.How will you pay for the construction costs of Phase 1?
A.All monies will be from private sources. There will not be any tax money involved in the construction of SON Valley.

Q.What will be the monthly...
A.We do not...

Q.Will SON Valley be able to receive Medicaid funds?
A.It is our intention that SON Valley will be eligible to receive Medicaid funds at some point. Right now we are working with state agencies and the legislature to make that goal a reality.

Q.If you become eligible for Medicaid dollars, will there be "strings" attached-will SON Valley still be Christian?
A.There will be no "strings" attached. Any of the provisions for receiving Medicaid dollars only apply to the quality of care for the residents. There are no government requirements that we "tone down" the Christianity.
