Our SON Valley Community Center is located in Ridgeland, MS. The residents from our Canton Intermediate Care Facility, our Community Living Residents, along with Patrons from around the Jackson Metro area come to the Community Center daily. Our facility is open Monday through Friday and is closed on weekends.
The spiritual health and growth of our Residents and Patrons is very important to us. Our first activity of the morning is a time of bible reading, prayer, and singing. Our Residents and Patrons are very sincere about worship and praying for each other as well as others. If you have a need and a Resident or Patron knows about it, we can assure you that your need is mentioned as a prayer request.
As adults, we realize that learning never ends and so it is true with our Residents and Patrons. We have an ongoing education portfolio for each Resident and Patron.
Our Residents and Patrons are actively taught various vocational skills to better prepare them for an actual Community Job. These skills are learned through teaching and practice. They include sorting, stocking, janitorial, folding, and identifying–to name a few.
At SON Valley, we work diligently to help our Residents and Patrons find employment in the community. Our Vocational Director, Terry Johnson, is responsible for helping pair willing businesses with the appropriate Resident. We currently have several Residents and Patrons who are employed by businesses in our community. Some of those businesses are Penn’s Restaurants, Mazzio’s, Malco Theater, and McAlister’s Deli. Terry would love to have a discussion with you concerning your employment of one or more of our Residents and Patrons. You can reach him at (601) 856-3200, ext. 221.
Our Residents and Patrons are offered the opportunity to go and experience many different environments with SON Valley. It may be a shopping trip to the grocery store or mall, a tour of a local television station, or a trip to the fire department.
